What is a proverb?
A proverb is a special expression. This special expression has an important message. Sometimes this message is easy to see; other times you have to think very hard about the meanings of the words before you can understand the real message.
Many times the literal or exact meanings of the words in the proverbs do not explain the meanings of the proverbs themselves. For example, what does the proverb "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" mean? Are we talking about people from Rome? Are we talking only about Romans?

The real meaning of this proverb is that when you are in a different place, you should do what people there do. If you go to a country where everyone arrives late, then you should arrive late. If you go to someone's house where they do not eat meat, you should eat the food that they give you and not make any comments about not having meat. The general meaning is that you should see what the people around you are doing and follow their actions or customs.
Proverbs are interesting because they teach us things about a country or culture. For example, in many english-speaking countries, there are many proverbs about time and money. One could argue, therefore, that time and money are very important parts of these cultures.

Now, i'm going to give you ten other proverbs and it's for you to guess theire meanings, are you ok?

1 - Beauty is only skin deep
2- It is better to give than to receive
3- Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you
4-If you want to keep a friend, never borrow, never lend
5-First impressions are the most lasting
6-It's better to be safe than sorry
7-There is no time like the present
8-If you lie down with dogs, you will get up with fleas
9-Don't wash your dirty linen in public
10-There are plenty of other fish is the sea

That's all for today, i hope that you'll like the topic...Don't forget to write your guesses
